Kitethrills Mauritius 2012

After two years of fantastic Mauritian adventures, the Kitethrills team will be back on the island for the 2012 winter season, this time for a two month period from mid June to mid August 2012.  We have organised the tour dates to coincide with the Air Mauritius flight schedule from the east coast (Sydney then Melbourne departure) or the west coast (Perth departure) – see below.  Custom Tours are also available if you cannot travel on our dates, there are some extra costs associated with custom tours.

Tour costs are $1900 for At the time of writing return flights from Sydney cost $1472 (inc taxes).  Kitethrills does not book flights, our tours meet you at the destination airport.

About Mauritius

Mauritius get over 14 knots 80% of days in June/ July. The average temperature is 16-30 degrees and the water is 25 degrees. The southeast trade winds are cool and more dense than our QLD winds making for more power.

The lagoon is enormous with different areas for shallow safe waters for beginners and also great spots for more advanced riders as well.  The outer reef has awesome wave options notably: One Eye (fast hollow left) and Manoa (full slower left).    There is also a fantastic wave for first timers to practise changing direction, turning on the face and rolling rail to rail.  Photo and videos will be taken from all angles to cover the action, as well as the normal travel shots of the journey. We will also be making trips to the north of Mauritius where we will do downwinders, and explore the norther lagoon and wave breaks.

This trip will suit all levels of riders for flat water or in the waves.  Advanced riders especially wave junkies will love it, intermediate riders will progress rapidly, beginners can take lessons through the local school (roughly $60/hr).

There are two ways to come with us -  group tour or custom tour.  The group fares are slightly discounted due to bulk discounts, and group booking discount and simplicity.  The custom tours are more convenient but have some extra costs such as personalised airport transfer procedures, car hires, and the inevitable empty beds we hold between individuals stays.

Group tour price: $1900
Airfares Approx $1500 (book online at airmauritus or see a travel agent)

Includes:  accommodation, group share vehicles, safety boat support for One-Eye and surrounding breaks, in-house professional photography service, group progression clinics, local guides and organized supported downwinders in the lagoon.

Custom Tours. Set your own dates,

These trips will suit people who cant make our dates but still want the benefits of group travel.  The costs vary according to your length of stay.  Long stayers (over 3weeks) will cost approx $145 day.  Short stayers around 7 – 10 days will cost about $160/day.  There is also a $45 tag along tour booking fee and airport transfers of $50/group.  This price includes, all the same benefits as the group tours except airfares.

Not included:
Airfares and domestic travel arrangements, food and beverages, extra activities on the island such as canyoning, parasailing, diving, sup hire etc
Kitesurfing lessons can be taken for approx $60/hour with a local school.  We will be doing group clinics with scheduled program of advanced skills progression.  Intermediate riders will of course be receiving help tips and advice from our staff, however beginners are advised to budget for lesson in the ideal learning lagoon.

Accommodation:

We have a complex of villas with pool outdoor entertaining venue and elevated views of the lagoon and reef.  The Villas are either twin share or larger 2 bedroom self contained villas with kitchen and bathroom.

You’ll see in this photo of the playground that there are ideal conditions for every level.  Beginners in the shallow bay in the foreground, Intermediates exploring the waves in the middle section and then more exposed and advanced wave options out the back towards to the top of this photo.  The mountain that this photo was taken from provides a barrier that squeezes the wind pass the point so there’s always a bit more wind here than elsewhere.  Also the big pass in the middle is the main drain point for the lagoon so there is an upwind current in the lagoon on the right side of this photo.  It doesn’t get better than this.  Book now.
