Stand Up Paddle Boarding at Lake Currimundi

Some facts about Currimundi Lake

Currimundi has a beautiful nature reserve and is the envy of the Sunshine Coast. There is a 6km canoe and paddle trail. The narrow waterways are lined by she-oaks, paperbarks and banksia, and are well protected from the wind. The waters are safe, clean and have only a gentle tidal flow. Its the perfect place to take a relaxing paddle on a board or kayak.

Great For Kids

The lake entrance has a large shallow sand bank, perfect for families with children. The clean water varies from ankle to waist deep across most of the sand bar, so parents can relax while their children enjoy the water beaches and the great outdoors.

The shallow waters are very popular in summer for families

Sheltered from the Wind

The wind is easy to avoid on Currimundi lake. Only a straight easterly wind will get in undisturbed.

The lake is narrow so its easy to enjoy your paddle out of the wind on either the north or south shoreline.

Its a wonderfully protected waterway perfect for paddle sports.

Patrolled Beach

Currimundi is considered a safe beach to swim and has lifeguards on-duty for summer weekends, and throughout school holidays except winter.

The lifeguard patrols make Currimiundi and excellent place to enjoy the ocean.

Its great for families with young kids and toddlers to enjoy the lake waters, and also for older kids and adults to enjoy the ocean.

Nature Reserve on North Shore

Currimundi lake is bounded by Kathleen McArthur Nature Reserve along its north shore near the entrance.

The nature reserve provides a beautiful short walk through pristine coastal heath, banksia woodlands, and coastal dune ecosystems that once covered large areas of the Sunshine Coast.
Enjoy a short paddle to a lake beach and take a stroll through the reserve to spot native plants and wildlife.

 Tree Lined Paddle Trail

The narrow tributaries of Currimundi lake are lined with forest and full of wildlife.

Enjoy the paddle to Meriden Plains and allow 3 hours to meander along the back creeks of Currimundi.

Don’t surprised if you see loads of native birds, reptiles or even kangaroos on the plains.
